New Procurement Chief

The overhaul of Nortel’s executive team how includes a new chief procurement officer. This time the appointment comes from within as John Haydon will be promoted from his current jog as vice-president for global supply chain. Nortel said Haydon will be responsible for about U$7-billion in annual purchases and all supplier relationships. This looks like a key job given CEO Mike Zafirovski wants to streamline operations to make Nortel more efficient and, more important, boost gross margins. Essentially, Haydon’s mandate will be reduce spending wherever possible. He will work from Hong Kong, which suggests Nortel will source more of its equipment from China.
