Can Nortel Squeeze into the BT Party?

Does Nortel still have a shot at being part of BT's $19-billion next-generation network plans? It appears there may be a window of opportunity amid news BT likes a "controversial new twist" that Nortel has taken on ethernet technology, which will be a key part of the new network, otherwise known as 21CN. According to Light Reading, Nortel aims to simplify ethernet by "turning off features such as the spanning tree protocol and MAC address flooding, and enabling network operators to manage their ethernet service delivery by using a set of standards-based management tools." Even if you don't know what this means, the key message is BT may invite Nortel to the party after all.
