Nortel Co-Sponsors Research Chair at UoW

Nortel and the Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada have co-sponsored a new research chair at the University of Waterloo that will focus on development new wireless technology such as 3G and 4G broadband networks. Dr. Amir Khandani, a UoW professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering, has been appointed senior chair. He is the author or co-author of more than 200 refereed articles and several high impact patents, including a patent on symbol-based Turbo-codes, a technique incorporated in many telecom standards. UoW has one of the best computer science schools in North America, and its graduates are heavily recruited by companies such as Microsoft and Google.
