Alcatel and Microsoft are each others throats in court, over IPTV patents. Do you know when the Microsoft / Alcatel joint venture for IPTV expires ? Who do you think Microsoft would rather work with as a partner, big group of French thugs that do business in a different way, or a smallish struggling/recovering but still competent company like Nortel that cannot dictate terms of the partnership in ways that Alacatel is trying to.

  2. JB Says:

We are in the first inning of the IP-TV game. Nortel got to the ballpark late and didn’t get a chance to hit. Who wins the game? Whoever has the most staying power – read cash – to win the long battle of attrition that will occur as the network effect takes time to kick in and we head towards a single dominant OS for IP-TV by inning nine. Microsoft is an even bet to win this type of game. But 90% certainty they won’t be partnered with Alcatel by inning three.
